AI Modeling for Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in Menopausal Women
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in the EU, with risk rising significantly during menopause. However, it is often under-recognized due to sex-specific symptoms, gender bias, and a lack of tailored risk assessment tools. The EU-funded CARAMEL project addresses this gap by using AI to develop risk prediction models for women in menopause, integrating data from diverse sources-including clinical records, wearable devices, lifestyle data, and novel biomarkers-and delivering these through digital tools such as self-assessment apps.
This PhD project will contribute to CARAMEL ’s mission by focusing on the development and application of AI models that integrate multimodal data to predict cardiovascular risk in menopausal women. As part of the project, the student will also undertake a placement with Megi Health Ltd, a Healthtech company and CARAMEL partner, gaining hands-on experience in health technology development, user engagement, and the translation of data-driven insights into real-world digital health solutions.
We are now accepting applications for 1 October 2025
How to apply
Candidates should possess or be expected to achieve a 1st or upper 2nd class degree in a relevant subject including the biosciences, computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, chemistry, physics, and be enthusiastic about combining their expertise with other disciplines in the field of healthcare.
Important information for International Students:
It is the responsibility of the student to apply for their Student Visa. Please note that the EPSRC DRIVE-Health studentship does not cover the visa application fees or the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) required for access to the National Health Service. The IHS is mandatory for anyone entering the UK on a Student Visa and is currently £776 per year for each year of study. Further detail can be found under the International Students tab below.
