Joint A*STAR - King's College London PhD studentships in Data-Driven Health

Up to three 4-year, fully funded ‘Joint A*STAR - EPSRC DRIVE-Health Studentships’ are available to support PhDs commencing October 2026, covering tuition fees, stipend, and bench fee.

Students recruited to these studentships must spend a minimum of 18 months and a maximum of 24 months at A*STAR Research Institute in Singapore with the named A*STAR supervisor(s) as part of the research and training programme. This is called the "attachment" period, and it will start in their second academic year.

Applications are accepted from citizens of the UK, the EU, the USA, Canada, Latin America, and Australia.

Please read the specific Key Dates and How to Apply sections below on this collaboration with A*STAR. Apart from the regular DRIVE-Health entry requirements and application process, A*STAR applicants will have a 2-tier interview process: by a KCL academic panel and a panel from Singapore.

Key dates - A*STAR projects

  1. Applications submitted by the closing date of 12 January 2026 will be considered. We will contact shortlisted applicants with information about the recruitment process.
  2. Candidates will be invited to attend interview(s). Interviews are projected to take place in March/April 2026.
  3. Project selection will be through a panel interview chaired by Centre Co-Directors at EPSRC DRIVE-Health and relevant supervisors from the A*STAR Institute, followed by an informal discussion with prospective supervisors.
  4. Successful candidates are required to accept their conditional places in May 2026.
  5. Please note that the A*STAR Institute will confirm the award in July 2026.
  6. If you have any questions related to the specific project you are applying for, please contact the main supervisor of the project directly.

Additionally, depending on your chosen project, some nationals may need to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate prior to applying for a visa. The ATAS application process can take up to 3 months and so it is essential that you apply for this early. Please note the following:

• If you need to apply for a student visa, you cannot submit your visa application until your ATAS certificate has been issued.

• If you are applying for any other visa, you cannot enrol at King’s and start your programme unless your ATAS certificate has been issued.

• If you apply late, you may not be able to join on the expected entry point and your registration may be postponed
